CEPHALOMETRICS
Cephalogram - An 8” x 10” radiographic (x-ray) image of the human
head, taken from the side, front, back, or from an oblique angle. It shows in detail the
angular relationships of facial components and their relationship to the cranial base.
Standard distance for cephalometric radiography is 60” (x-ray source-to-midsaggital plane).
The keys to an excellent diagnostic-quality image are rigidity and repeatability of the
positioning device, a functional and compatible film/screen combination, and sufficient
energy from the x-ray source. Wehmer recommends use of 85kVp/10mA or higher x-ray source
and rare earth green film/screen systems in conjunction with its cephalometers.
